At Sensura Dental we understand how important it is to retain your smile whilst undergoing treatment, because of this we never let a patient walk out without their teeth. Implant patients will always be provided with custom made temporary teeth whilst undergoing implant work, making sure that during treatment, no patient is left feeling uncomfortable or unable to smile.
A dental implant is essentially a replacement tooth root. They are small cylindrical shaped pieces of titanium alloy that are surgically placed into the jaw in the place of a missing tooth. When the implant has settled into the bone and it has healed securely around it, a post and crown can be fitted to the implant. Implants feel and function just like normal teeth and with proper care will last a lifetime.
Implants can be used to replace missing teeth after an accident or replace teeth lost due to gum disease or illness. They can be used individually or for multiple teeth and in many cases can be placed as a means to secure a bridge or denture.
The most important thing when deciding if an implant can be placed successfully is if the bone in the jaw is substantial enough to support an implant. Sometimes, if a tooth has been missing a long time, the bone in the jaw can recede making it too thin to place an implant. In cases like this Raj can often carry out bone grafts to rebuild the bone ready for supporting an implant. Potential implant patients should have good general oral health and ideally not be smokers. Patients should be prepared to undergo full mouth x-rays to determine bone levels and in some instances a CAT scan may be required. The best way to see if you are suitable for implants is to book a consultation with Raj where he can individually assess your case and work out a tailored treatment plan to suit you.
Once the implant is placed into the jaw, a healing period of 3-6 months is required for the titanium alloy implant to osseointergrate with the bone. After the implant has taken to the bone successfully, the abutment (or post) can be placed into the implant – this is left for 4-6 weeks to let the gum heal and form a natural contour. Once this stage is complete, a ceramic crown can then be made and fitted onto the abutment. Treatment time can vary slightly although usually, treatment with dental implants should be completed well within 9 months
At Sensura Dental, we do our utmost to ensure our patients experience no pain during treatment. With the use of advanced anaesthetics and sedation we can be confident that nervous patients are fully reassured although usually implants will be placed using a gentle local anaesthetic.
Every patient is different and because of this, every implant treatment is different! Some people may need much simpler treatment than others and sometimes people need to undergo procedures such as a bone graft in order to have implants placed. The best way to get a clear indication of the likely cost is to undergo a fully comprehensive examination with us. After this examination has been carried out and appropriate x-rays have been taken, we can then produce a treatment plan with accurate pricing and treatment proposal details.
